The Latest News from the Heaton & Lostock Labour Party Posted: 05/02/12 John Launches His 2012 Local Election Campaign Heaton & Lostock Labour Party Secretary John Gillatt has launched his bid to become the first ever Socialist councillor in the Heaton & Lostock ward of Bolton MBC. This is what he says: John Gillatt for Heaton & Lostock Please Give me a Chance This will be my 12th attempt to become the first ever Labour Councillor for the area. Each time I stand my share of the vote increases but I still have some way to go. However, I really would like just one chance to prove myself as someone able and willing to represent all in the local community, regardless of their political affiliation. How about, for this one local election, putting your own politics aside and giving me a chance? If I win and don't do what I say I will never ask for your vote again. I'm involved in numerous local community organisations and campaigns from opposition to racism to support for the wholefood movement, from getting potholes filled to opposing the closure of Heaton Library. I firmly believe in people working together for the benefit of all and am therefore a trade unionist and member of the Cooperative Party. I work for a UK manufacturing company, have lived in the area for almost 25 years and for some time was a local Councillor in Rochdale. I believe that my commitment and life experiences make me the ideal person to represent the people of Heaton & Lostock - so please give me a chance on May 3rd. Read more about me and ask me any question you like at www.heatonandlostock.org Posted: 12/01/12 It's The Bankers Wot Did It So we start another political year and whilst the tooing and froing goes on at national level we began our year with a discussion about the Eurozone crisis. Guest speaker at our monthly meeting was one of our own branch members, Gary Titley - former MEP for the North West and former Leader of the British Labour Group in the European Parliament. So he does know a thing or two about the topic we discussed! Next month we'll be meeting jointly with our comrades of the Smithills Labour Party. |
